Truex pulls away on final restart to win at Pocono Raceway

Ryan Blaney is starting from the pole at Pocono Raceway, the site of his lone NASCAR Cup victory.

The series shifts to MI where Larson is the defending race victor.

Busch made it a moot point Saturday as he dominated to win the Pocono Green 250. This package debuted last season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Drivers had two practice sessions Friday at Pocono to see how their cars performed with the package.

Besides Pocono, NASCAR plans to use the package for the Xfinity races at MI next week and Indianapolis in September. He also has finished in the top 4 in seven of the 11 races held this season.

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson is riding a career-worst losing streak in the No. 48 Chevy and Kyle Larson, with five career Cup wins, are among the winless veteran Chevy drivers.

Harvick and Busch have combined to win nine races this season.

"I knew I would need some good restarts because once I felt like if one or two of those guys pass me, the rest of them would probably eat me up". "We're going to drink it all!" "That was kind of weird that we saw a caution for that, but safety comes first, so that just kind of derailed our strategy, if you will, and we lost this race last year on not pitting in that situation and getting beat by tires, and so we pitted this year for tires and got beat by those that didn't pit".

Almirola now has six top-10 finishes through 14 races, one short of his career high for a season.

Joey Logano ($10,700) - Keselowski's Team Penske teammate has been more up and down at Pocono, though for whatever reason, it's the July race where he usually struggles. As the final laps ticked down, he gradually increased his lead.

But Pocono belonged to Truex and he won his 17th career Cup race.

His first win at Pocono in Xfinity gives him wins on 26 tracks in the series. I wasn't sure how it was going to work out.

Busch also has 47 Cup wins and 50 in the Truck Series to become perhaps the most dominant driver across all three national NASCAR series in history.

In actuality, Custer is no stranger to the tri-oval.

"It was a little disappointing that the tires didn't mean anything more than they did there at the end with guys that had 10, 11 laps on their tires", said Busch, who led 13 laps and finished fourth. "It was really fast out front", he said. He has picked up one win with two other runner-up finishes. "In this sport, as tough as it is and as competitive as it is, that's really what you look for".

"We were probably a 6th or 7th place vehicle".

"It's about the Daytona 500 and trying to get that one", he said.

In years past, tires were at a premium, and older tires were a disadvantage. He will be in the No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing. This is the third year the series has run at Pocono.

Add in the fact that NASCAR changed the rules this year by implementing restrictor plates, bigger spoilers and air ducts to slow cars and promote more side-by-side racing and the Xfinity Pocono Green 250 was bound to be even more intriguing than normal.
