Trump Narrows Supreme Court Pick, Announcement Coming MONDAY — THREE LEFT

The Supreme Court in October 2015

When the Supreme Court explicitly weighed overturning Roe v. Wade and eliminating constitutional protection for abortion rights in 1992, for instance, Justice Anthony M. Kennedy provided the fifth vote to prevent that outcome.

The three are Judges Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Raymond Kethledge with Kavanaugh and Barrett as the top two at the moment. A Republican appointee, he has held the key vote on such high-profile issues as abortion, affirmative action, gay rights, guns, campaign finance and voting rights. He has not yet publicly indicated that he has narrowed the list and could still consider others in the mix, and ONN reports Vice President Mike Pence has also met with some of the contenders for the Supreme Court vacancy. "The stakes couldn't be higher, we cannot allow our daughters and granddaughters to have few rights than we do", said Jennifer Welch, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of IL.

The three leading candidates were all on a list of 25 names released by the president a year ago.

Barrett, 46, a former law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia and a Notre Dame Law School professor, was grilled for her Christian beliefs eight months ago by Sen.

"When the President has made up his mind, he wants to go", an aide told Axios, adding that staffers plan to persuade Trump to stick to his original timeline because the announcement would get more media coverage.

But, calling for equal treatment, the 23-time Grand Slam victor said: "I had a conversation with the lead guy with USADA". What I want to know, if everyone is getting tested, that we are really working to keep this sport clean.

It's important to maintain that caveat, because President Trump has not made a final decision, and it could change. "The American people since Trump became president have gone to airports to protect immigrants, they've marched for women's rights". "The Senate must only confirm a justice who firmly declares that the constitution protects individual liberty and the right of all people to make personal decisions about their bodies and relationships, including the right to have contraception, the right to an abortion, and to marry the person who you choose". Judge Kavanaugh also worked in the George W. Bush administration, and has been on the U.S. Circuit Court for the District of Columbia for 12 years, leaving a lengthy record for his fans - and detractors - to scrutinize.

Kethledge graduated from the University of Michigan and received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Contentious confirmation hearings in the Senate delayed his confirmation until 2006.

Coney Barrett, 46, was a law professor at Notre Dame Law School in IN before Trump appointed her to her current position in October. U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) confirmed on Tuesday that he is one of several candidates in the running. "If you combine Trump's love for making history. with his emphasis on appearance (the next SCOTUS nominee has to have immaculate academic credentials, yes, but also, the robe simply has to look like she-or he-was born to wear it) then there is a big, flashing red arrow pointing at Coney Barrett".

That law was struck down by the Supreme Court, as she pointed out, by the vote of five justices in 2016 in the case of Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt. Activists this week are sending coat hangers to her congressional office in a symbolic message about the legacy of anti-abortion policies and court decisions like Roe v. Wade. Collins, a pro-choice centrist who has bucked her party on pivotal votes in the past, will be one of the most closely watched by Democrats and Republicans alike.
