European Union to fine Google a record $5bn over Android

Google Fined RM20.3 Billion By EU Over Abuse Of Android OS

But it's not going to be easy to just ditch Android, and one of Bloomberg's sources actually suggests the company may not be that serious about the idea - calling it a "senior-engineer retention project" created to keep Google's talent busy so they don't go and join rival companies.

The president took to Twitter Thursday, where he wrote - "told you so" - after the European Union slapped a five billion dollar fine on the tech giant.

European Union officials have been investigating Google contracts that require manufacturers of Android phones to take Google's search and browser apps and other Google services when they want to license the Play app store.

Google has said it will appeal the decision - the latest in a series of actions against the company.

President Trump has been calling on the European Union to renegotiate trade deals, which would be fair to both the USA and other nation states.

The decision, which follows a three-year investigation, comes as fears of a transatlantic trade war mount due to President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports.

Yesterday Google was hit with the whopping fine by the European Commission. It's still early to tell how the Internet search giant will respond to the ruling, but many observers have been quick to point out that Sundar Pichai's memo contains what could be constituted as "warning shots" regarding the openness of Android.

NCAA announces future Final Four sites
The other known Final Four cities at this point include Minnesota for 2019, Atlanta for 2020, and New Orleans for 2022. Today's announcement culminated months of planning, meetings, facility diagrams, renderings, and presentations.

It it fails to overturn it, the company will have 90 days to change its practices or risk facing an even larger fine.

Android, which runs about 80 per cent of the world's smartphones according to Strategy Analytics, is the most important of a trio of antitrust cases against Google.

Google is an ambitious company to say the least, and the individual teams that work on what's coming down the pipe are just as focused on building new and exciting products.

It represents just over two weeks of revenue for Google parent Alphabet and would scarcely dent its cash reserves of $102.9 billion.

The EU's decision would bring the running total of Google fines to 6.7 billion after last year's penalty over shopping-search services.

Levies are based on revenue in the market being probed and can't exceed 10 percent of a company's global annual revenue.
