"The security screening process that is done for all gifts was done for the soccer ball", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

But Friday, Putin accelerated the timeline, saying that he's ready to come to the White House and revealing for the first time that he's invited Trump to Moscow.

It wasn't clear late Wednesday whether Shine and Sanders were acting on their own against Collins or were carrying out a directive from Trump himself.

Gidley said "It had nothing to do with the content of the question". She said the Kremlin basically drove the entire process in Helsinki, and "we're seeing that again now".

Moscow's military support starting in 2015 of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian war, Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and the conclusions of US intelligence agencies that Russian Federation meddled in the election have soured relations.

Trump has a particularly fraught relationship with CNN, which he often blasts as purveyor of "fake news".

But when the logistical decision was made to have Trump travel by motorcade in 'The Beast, ' there was no longer an opportunity for the president to take questions.

Trump on Friday denied knowing in advance about a 2016 meeting his son Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign staff had at Trump Tower with a group of Russians who offered damaging information on Clinton.

She repeated the question after Trump declined to answer. "I am prepared to go to Washington, but, I repeat, if the appropriate conditions for work are created".

The White House complained about questions she shouted to Trump earlier about Russian Federation and Michael Cohen.

Schober added, "They're going to be carefully looking at any gift".

The White House Correspondents' Association, which represents reporters seeking access to the White House, also issued a statement protesting the action. "It can not stand. Reporters asking questions of powerful government officials, up to and including the President, helps hold those people accountable".

Then National Security Adviser John Bolton said Wednesday that plans for a fall visit would be delayed until 2019.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said such invitations are reserved "for allies". "It doesn't happen and shouldn't happen in the United States".

"To address the thing about how Collins "refused" to leave the session upon request: Such a "refusal" could well be attributed to just about any pool representative who has filed into an Oval Office meeting, "wrote media critic Erik Wemple at the Washington Post". The president sometimes takes questions during the sessions.

"Would you ask her if we ever used the word "ban"?"
