Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom passes away in London

Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz passes away in London

Nawaz, 68, who was first lady of Pakistan three times, was diagnosed with lymphoma in August previous year and had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in London for months.

Confirming the news Sharif's brother and the head Pakistan Muslim League-N, Shahbaz Sharif, tweeted from his party's official Twitetr handle in Urdu, "My sister-in-law and the wife of Nawaz Sharif sahib is no more amongst us".

Pakistan's government later made a decision to release Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on parole to attend the funeral.

An unseen of video of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif bidding farewell to his wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz for the last time has gone viral on social media soon after the death of Pakistan's former first lady in London Tuesday.

She underwent multiple surgeries and at least five chemotherapy sessions, but did not recover. On June 15, she was placed on a ventilator after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Up until her husband's ousting a year ago, Kulsoom Sharif had never been a politician, but she memorably led protests after a 1999 military coup that ended a previous Sharif administration. He was sentenced to 10-year jail term by an anti-corruption court in Pakistan. He also directed the Pakistan High Commission in London to assist in the provision of all necessary facilities to the heirs of the deceased.

NASA reveals ‘extremely dangerous’ Hurricane Florence pictures from space
At its closest approach to the territory, it is expected to be a tropical storm with top winds of 65 miles an hour. Rain from Hurricane Florence falling on this saturated ground will bring a widespread and severe flooding event.

Conspiracy theories claiming that Nawaz was actually healthy, and that the Sharifs were faking her illness to gain sympathy, swirled in the final weeks of the acrimonious campaign.

When Nawaz and Maryam Sharif left London for Pakistan in July, they knew they faced lengthy jail terms and would likely not see Ms Nawaz again.

She won a by-election to the national assembly seat, vacated by her husband's disqualification in a Panama Papers case verdict past year in July, from her hospital bed in London.

She was born into a Kashmiri family in Punjab and graduated from Forman Christian College. She led defiant, lonely protests against the Musharraf regime to get her husband freed from prison. "She's contributed famously to my father's life and to democracy in Pakistan".

Leaders of political parties and Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, the chief of army staff, extended their condolences to the bereaved family. "May God bless her soul".
