Kavanaugh and Ford Have Testified. Here's What Happens Next

President Trump ordered the FBI to reopen US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's background investigation after several women accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct

Senators of the Republican Party have said that the Senate judiciary committee has made a decision to vote on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, the US Supreme Court candidate backed by President Donald Trump, on Friday (Sept 28) morning. Republicans praised Ford's bravery in coming forward, but many of them said her account would not affect their support for Kavanaugh.

It followed testimony from Doctor Christine Blasey Ford who said she was "100%" sure he had sexually assaulted her 36 years ago.

The outgoing senator was a friend and fan of Kavanaugh's until the sexual misconduct allegations became public.

Collins has said she believes that Ford and Deborah Ramirez, Ford's second accuser, should be heard by the Senate before there's a vote.

She wouldn't even attempt to get a search warrant, she reportedly added. ABC News reports the author might be Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).

When Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked her if it could be a case of mistaken identity, as Kavanaugh and some Republican senators have suggested, Ford replied: "Absolutely not". Lindsey Graham sent a message to his GOP colleagues during the hearing: "If you vote no, you're legitimizing the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics".

Asked about the judge's chances at tomorrow morning's vote, Sen.

Ford was seated at a table in the packed hearing room flanked by her lawyers, facing a bank of senators.

America, the nation's only weekly Catholic news magazine, has published an editorial pulling its endorsement for Brett Kavanaugh following Thursday's hearings.

Murkowski, one of the three moderate Republican senators who have not announced whether or not they will support Kavanaugh, told Reuters: "I find Dr. Ford's testimony to be credible".

I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.

She alleged that Kavanaugh and others while in high school spiked the drinks of girls at parties with intoxicants to make it easier for them to be gang raped.

Dr Ford has claimed Mr Kavanaugh was drunk when the alleged incident happened, which meant there were a number of questions about his drinking habits.

President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. It seems that no one knows at this point if the votes to confirm Kavanaugh are there.

Durbin was forceful in his assertion that Mark Judge, whom Ford alleges was also present and participated in the accused assault, should provide testimony of his own before the committee.

Former President George W Bush has been advocating for Kavanaugh with wavering senators in recent days, according to a person familiar with Bush's outreach who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Senate Judiciary Democrats ask Trump to withdraw Kavanaugh or investigate
Kavanaugh has also been accused by a second woman of exposing himself during a college party at Yale, something he has denied. That time frame would have Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court before the allegations against him came to light.
