Kavanaugh Gains Key GOP Senator Ahead of Crucial Vote

Brett Kavanaugh says family name 'destroyed' by sex assault claim

Republicans are reluctant for several reasons, including the likelihood that further investigations could push a vote past the November elections that may switch Senate control back to the Democrats and make consideration of any Trump nominee more hard.

Tester also said he has "deep concerns about the allegations of sexual assault against Judge Kavanaugh".

Ranking Senate Judiciary Democrat Dianne Feinstein - who sat on Ford's uncorroborated allegations for weeks before handing them over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation days before a scheduled committee vote - promptly painted the Republicans as the ones who have politicized the process.

But there is a greater question at hand, a question beyond the truthfulness of Ford or Kavanaugh's testimony. Kavanaugh angrily denied the allegations that he assaulted Ford while they were both in high school, while she said she was "100 per cent" certain he was her attacker. Jeff Flake issued a statement ahead of a Judiciary Committee meeting saying he "left the hearing yesterday with as much doubt as certainty".

Kavanaugh also lost the support of America Magazine, a national Jesuit publication.

Senator Flake's shocking announcement shortly after he was confronted in an elevator in a Senate office building by two female sexual assault survivors.

Repeatedly Democrats asked Kavanaugh to call for an FBI investigation into the claims. She said Trump thought Kavanaugh's testimony was "powerful, it was riveting and it was honest".

Graham expressed sympathy for the Supreme Court nominee and his family, saying, "I can not imagine what you and your family have gone through".

Kavanaugh was nominated by President Donald Trump and his confirmation would cement conservative control of the Supreme Court with disputes over abortion rights, immigration, gay rights, voting rights and transgender troops possibly heading toward the justices soon.

"You have replaced "advice and consent" with "search and destroy, '" he said, referring to the Constitution's charge to senators" duties in confirming high officials. Thursday's hearing in many ways turned on Ford's credibility as a victim of and a witness to an event that Kavanaugh staunchly denies.

Body found off highway believed to be missing autistic boy
Maddox, who is autistic and does not speak, disappeared on Saturday when he ran ahead of his father at Rankin Lake Park . As the search for Maddox Ritch continues, the 6-year-old boy's father spoke at a news conference in Gastonia Wednesday.

Flake is one of four swing votes required for Kavanaugh to be confirmed.

He spoke after Arizona Sen.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, comprising 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats, is scheduled to vote Friday on whether to recommend Kavanaugh's nomination to the full chamber for confirmation.

The other was Judge Kavanaugh loudly and passionately making his case for why he didn't and couldn't have carried out the sexual assault against Dr. Ford.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Friday to advance the nomination to the full Senate, but Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley noted the timing on Senate vote was up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

In an election-season battle that is being waged along a polarised nation's political and cultural fault lines, Mr Trump and most Republicans have rallied behind Mr Kavanaugh.

"I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process", Kavanaugh added. Flake requested the Senate vote be delayed for one week to let the FBI conduct an investigation.

"The accusations brought against Judge Kavanaugh are sickening and deserve an independent investigation", Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker tweeted.

But on Thursday, as the Senate Judiciary Committee interviewed first Christine Blasey Ford and then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whom she accuses of sexual assault, call started pouring in to TurnAround.

Meanwhile, supporters and Kavanaugh himself argued that his reputation has been severely damaged based on accusations alone.
