Key Senators Undecided as Senate Poised to Vote on Kavanaugh

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley

Six days after Trump reluctantly ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to scrutinize the accusations- which allegedly occurred in the 1980s and Kavanaugh has denied - leading GOP lawmakers briefed on the agency's confidential document all reached the same conclusion: There was no verification of the women's past claims and nothing new.

"Against that backdrop, I testified before the Judiciary Committee last Thursday to defend my family, my good name and my lifetime of public service". But he said he remains the same "hardworking, even-keeled" person he has always been.

"And, in all candor, I believe it would be used to further delay this nomination-a goal about which you and your Democratic colleagues have been abundantly clear and single-minded in pursuing", McConnell wrote.

Sens. Jeff Flake and Susan Collins - two Republican key votes who are undecided - returned to the SCIF several times Thursday to review the document. He said Democrats' treatment of Kavanaugh has been "nothing short of monstrous".

At the rally, Trump said Democrats' "rage-fueled resistance is starting to backfire". Voting for an end to the endless debate that defines the Senate is not the same thing as voting for Kavanaugh's final confirmation.

The Senate is split 51 Republicans to 49 Democrats and independents.

The reference to McCain was to that of the dramatic vote past year on repealing the Affordable Care Act, when the Arizona Republican provided the final "no" vote despite earlier voting to get to the measure. The individuals interviewed had potential firsthand knowledge of the allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh. Supporters of Kavanaugh also turned out. He is not running for re-election and has been seen as a possible challenger to Trump in 2020.

He was referring to polling that shows some improvement for Republicans heading into the midterm election.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) asked that his fellow senators "say no to mob rule by voting to confirm Judge Kavanaugh", who the Iowa Republican called the "most qualified [Supreme Court] nomination in our nation's history".

Woods' home in Woodland Hills was broken into Thursday as he played against the Minnesota Vikings at the L.A. The NBA's Nick Young lost about $500,000 in jewelry and other items during a burglary at his Tarzana home.

"It appears to be a very thorough investigation, but I'm going back later to personally read the interviews", Collins said.

Ms Feinstein said the White House may have limited the probe.

Those not interviewed in the reopened background investigation included Mr Kavanaugh himself and Christine Blasey Ford, who alleged he had molested her in a locked room at a 1982 high school gathering.

The report, sent by the White House to the Senate Judiciary Committee last night, was denounced by Democrats as a whitewash that was too narrow in scope and ignored critical witnesses.

Capitol Police have begun arresting about 300 protesters who staged a sit-in on the floor of a Senate office building's atrium.

Under new rules approved a year ago, 50 votes are needed for victory in Friday's procedural vote, which is on ending debate on the confirmation and moving to a formal and definitive confirmation vote. Eight of these individuals were related to Ford's allegations while two alleged eyewitnesses were from Deborah Ramirez's allegations.

Senators said the documents they examined totalled about 50 pages. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., including screenshots that "were very helpful" in understanding the communications between various people discussing the situation. A vote against the judge, Sen.

According to Reuters, White House spokesman Raj Shah said the Trump administration was "fully confident" Kavanaugh had the necessary support.
