Republicans angry, energized to vote after Kavanaugh hearings and confirmation

Brett Kavanaugh is sworn-in as Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court by Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy

WASHINGTON, D.C. President Donald Trump apologized to Brett Kavanaugh for the bitter battle over his confirmation to the Supreme Court and declared him "innocent" of the sexual assault allegations that almost derailed his nomination.

Trump resurfaced some of these concerns after Kavanaugh's nomination was threatened by sexual assault allegations.

"The Supreme Court is a team of nine". With courtroom security tight, there were no disruptions by protesters during the arguments, as there had been during Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings.

Kavanaugh officially became a member of the high court Saturday.

In an interview with The Associated Press, the Kentucky Republican cited the Trump administration's "extraordinary" success with the GOP-controlled Congress — including a growing economy, two new Supreme Court justices and congressional action to cut regulations and taxes. Fifty-six percent (56%) are angry about how the Senate treated Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, including 35% who are Very Angry.

Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, for her vote to block Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has no plans to oppose her if she runs for re-election in 2022. Only one Democrat voted for Trump's nominee.

He said, "I'm just reminding you what the history has been".

Mr Kavanaugh is expected to push the court further to the right as he is replacing Justice Kennedy, a conservative who sometimes voted with the liberal justices on key social issues including in cases involving abortion and gay rights. Fifty-two percent said they believed the women versus 38 percent who said found Kavanaugh most credible. He had already hired four law clerks, all women.

Kanye West to visit White House for meeting with Donald Trump
We build factories here in America to create jobs. "I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon". At the time , the singer John Legend, a close friend of Mr West, called the meeting a "publicity stunt".

He added: "I think it's an insult to the American public".

Kavanaugh had served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington since 2006. Kavanaugh strongly denied the allegations and is now on the Supreme Court.

The results suggest the electorate paid close attention to the Kavanaugh confirmation and didn't like what they saw, especially after three women claimed late in the 11th hour of his confirmation process that he sexually assaulted them during high school and college freshman drinking parties.

Ultimately, Kavanaugh was confirmed by a vote of 50-48. But he says the controversy over Kavanaugh could end up helping Republicans by generating more enthusiasm among GOP voters who feel he was mistreated.

"What happened to the Kavanaugh family violates every notion of fairness, decency and due process", the president said in his remarks at the swearing in.

"It is very hard I think for a member of the public to look at what goes on in confirmation hearings these days, which is a very sharp conflict in political terms between Democrats and Republicans, and not think that the person who comes out of that process must similarly share that partisan view of public issues and public life".

After an extra Federal Bureau of Investigation probe - which media reports say was drastically curtailed by the White House - also found nothing new, Kavanaugh was finally voted into the coveted post.
