Senate confirms 15 more judges, wrapping up a GOP priority

US President Donald Trump has had a series of wins but can it last

Three nominees are for appellate courts-one each for the Second, Third and Ninth Circuits.

While Democrats have forced Republicans to use extra debate time repeatedly on nominations, GOP leaders have been relentless in using time on the Senate floor for judicial picks by President Trump in 2017 and 2018, confirming 84 judges to all levels of the judiciary.

"Make no mistake, today was yet another step in the GOP's takeover of our courts, stacking the deck against women and families at every level", Ilyse Hogue, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said after the votes. Among Independents, 53% of respondents said that they disapproved of the manner in which the GOP handled the hearings while 23% approved, as to the Democrats 58% of Independents said they disapproved of the manner in which that party handled the hearings while 30% said they approved. That would put the total of appellate judges confirmed at 29 in the last two years-a.

Republican Senate candidates have seen a substantial increase in enthusiasm among likely voters since Kavanaugh's confirmation.

All 98 seats in the House are up for election November 6, and voters will decide 25 of the Senate's 49 seats.

Stocks have their worst day in months; Dow drops 800-plus points
Higher rates can slow economic growth, erode corporate profits and make investors less willing to pay high prices for stocks. The two-year yield rose to 2.88 percent from 2.87 percent, and the 30-year yield climbed to 3.38 percent from 3.37 percent.

All of the nominees are expected to pass a vote in the wake of strong opposition against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) was celebrated Thursday by many on the right for the savagery coming out of his social media account after Democrats caved to a deal from Republicans on judicial nominees. The new majority - five conservatives to four liberals - is likely to shift the law to the right on "countless deeply contested issues from abortion to gun rights".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday that the bitter partisan battle over Kavanaugh's confirmation has revved up Republican voters across red states. McConnell has all the leverage in the fight ― only two of his members are considered vulnerable this cycle, while Democrats count a half-dozen senators, most of whom wanted to go home and defend their seats. If they succeed in retaining most if not all of their endangered seats, they stand a (currently small) chance of winning the Senate.

A little more than a month away from the critical ballots that could see the party lose control of the House of Representatives, a new poll finds the Democrats' overall lead has dwindled and they are no longer more enthusiastic about voting than Republicans.

Liberal activist groups opposed to more Republican judicial confirmations were furious with the prospect of another deal that would place more judges on the bench who have been handpicked by President Donald Trump.

Trump has a busy campaign schedule to spread the word that the allegations against Kavanaugh were a "hoax that was set up by the Democrats" at what he's called a risky time for men who can be falsely accused.
