Saudis vow 'full' probe of Khashoggi murder, U.S. defence secretary says

Was Jamal Khashoggi About to Expose Saudi Use of Chemical Weapons in Yemen?

Turkish officials, however, said they believed he was killed inside by a team sent from Saudi Arabia. "There is an investigation going on [in Saudi Arabia] as well", Çavuşoğlu said in a joint news conference with his Azerbaijani and Georgian counterparts Elmar Mammadyarov and Davit Zalkaliani, respectively.

But Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir rejected the request, saying the men will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia and dismissed media "hysteria".

Khashoggi, 59, entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to obtain paperwork necessary for his upcoming marriage to Cengiz, a Turkish national.

Saudi officials characterize the killing as a rogue operation carried out by Saudi agents who exceeded their authority.

Saudi Arabia has admitted that the dissident journalist was murdered in its consulate in the city on October 2.

Washington Post columnist Khashoggi's murder has escalated into a crisis for the world's top oil exporter as Saudi Arabia's allies have reacted with outrage.

"This incident, this assassination, took place in the Saudi consulate", Ms. Cengiz said, speaking through a translator.

He did not walk out of the consulate and Ms Cengiz, who was waiting outside, first raised the alarm.

After Sayoc's arrest Friday, authorities warned that more packages might still be circulating through the mail system. The first package arrived Wednesday morning in the mailroom at Time Warner Center, home to CNN's NY offices.

He has argued that the rulers of Saudi Arabia face a conflict of interest in overseeing any trial because the killing was ordered and directed from within the Saudi government for political reasons.

Saudi Arabia's attorney general is scheduled to arrive in Turkey on Sunday to hold talks with investigators looking into the slaying of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in the kingdom's Istanbul consulate earlier this month.

In turn, a friend of Mr Khashoggi told the Daily Express that the Saudi journalist was close to get "documentary evidence" proving that Riyadh used chemical weapons in Yemen.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that his country would reveal more evidence about the killing but was not in any rush to do so, indicating that Turkish authorities will keep methodically increasing pressure on Saudi Arabia.

Also on Monday, White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said President Donald Trump's administration is considering possible actions in response to the killing.

Anadolu said the Saudi prosecutor would inspect the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where Khashoggi was killed almost four weeks ago.

Ms. Cengiz said she had not been contacted by Prince Mohammed or the Saudi royal family, nor offered any condolences by them.

The Saudi national had been living in self-imposed exile in Virginia in the U.S., often writing columns denouncing the absolute power of crown prince Muhammad bin Salman.
