Va. sisters were found dead in NYC, duct-taped together

2 bound bodies found in NYC were missing Virginia sisters

According to the NYPD, the two dead girls had previously spent time in a shelter after going missing once before in December 2017.

The first photos of two Saudi Arabian sisters whose bodies were found duct-taped together near a New York City river were released Wednesday as authorities continue to investigate their mysterious deaths.

The girls' movements before their death are not yet clear but police said they had moved to the United States with their mother in 2015, settling in Fairfax, more than 200 miles from where their bodies were found on 24 October. Did you know them?

Tala Farea had been reported missing on August 24, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which noted that she may be with her sister, Rotana.

"We've made significant progress in piecing together pieces of this puzzle to find out what happened", Shea said.

Fairfax police confirmed to DailyMail.com that at least one Farea sister was reported missing by family.

Police sources say they do not believe the sisters died by jumping off the George Washington Bridge, six miles upriver from where their bodies were found by Riverside Park.

Microsoft to keep working with US military, despite concerns
Microsoft isn't the only tech giant to forge ahead with military contracts, regardless of the controversies they evoke. Microsoft president Brad Smith agrees.

Both had been students and Rotana had been studying at George Mason University before she left in the spring.

Rotana Farea has a previous address in Falls Church on record.

But there's still few public details about either sister's past.

The two bodies were found on Wednesday at around 3:00pm by a passer-by who informed the police.

A source with the New York Police Department tells CBS News the mother, who lives in Virginia, told police she received a call from the Saudi government in October telling the family they all had to go back to Saudi Arabia because the sisters had applied for immigration asylum.

The Consulate General is following closely with local authorities the investigation of the two Saudi citizens found in the Hudson river. Surveillance cameras showed no signs of them on the bridge.

The bodies were discovered on rocks near the Hudson River. Law&Crime repeatedly reached out to the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, D.C. for comment or clarification on the mother's allegation but no response was forthcoming at the time of publication.
