Trump calls for shutdown talks with Congress leaders

Pelosi hits Hawaii resort while Trump visits Iraq

McConnell spokesman Donald Stewart said Senate Republicans would not take action without Trump's backing.

It was unclear if Wednesday's meeting, arranged by Trump on Tuesday, would lead to a breakthrough.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night.

President Trump plans to hold a highly anticipated border security meeting with congressional leaders in the Situation Room on Wednesday afternoon, Fox News has learned - choosing a setting meant to underscore the urgency of the border problem.

AFGE filed the suit in the US Court of Federal Claims on behalf of all essential government workers, as well as named plaintiffs Justin Tarovisky and Grayson Sharp, who work for the Bureau of Prisoners.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and top House Republicans Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Steve Scalise, R-La., will be in attendance.

With Congress set to return on Thursday, House Democrats are preparing their own plan to re-open the government.

Klopp insists 'hungry' Liverpool ready for Man City
The last time they met, back on October 7, it finished 0-0 - and that scoreline doesn't do justice to just how poor a game it was. The striker was booked in the second half and then booed by the travelling support as he jogged off the pitch ten minutes later.

"It is important to note that these bills contain no new wall funding", Pelosi said in a letter Tuesday to Democratic House members. "Let's make a deal?"

The mentioned partial shutdown, which started on December 22, was reasoned by Trump demand to allocate more than $5 billion designated for the construction of a US-Mexico border wall.

"Senate Republicans have already supported this legislation, and if they reject it now, they will be fully complicit in chaos and destruction of the president's third shutdown of his term".

The partial shutdown came after congressmen failed to come to an agreement on funding for border security, with the president demanding $5 billion for a wall on the southern border and Democrats instead offering $1.3 billion for overall border security. Trump asked in a Tuesday tweet.

The visit by Pelosi and Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer would be their first to the White House since their sharp exchange with Trump in the Oval Office on December 11 during which the president told them, "I am proud to shut down the government for border security".

The Democrats' two-part spending package includes a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through February 8 and provide $1.3 billion for border fencing and $300 million for other border security items including technology and cameras. After aides suggested there would not necessarily be a traditional wall as Trump had described since his presidential campaign, Trump insisted otherwise.

The second part of the package would fund federal agencies that are now unfunded, such as the Justice, Commerce and Transportation departments, through September 30, the end of the federal fiscal year. Democratic lawmakers and some Republicans have refused to meet the demand, and many have noted that the president previously promised that Mexico would pay for the wall.
