Elizabeth Warren kicks off 2020 bid for US president

Warren apologizes for listing race as 'American Indian'

Senator Elizabeth Warren has said she will run for president, adding a fierce advocate of economic populism to an already crowded field of Democrats in the United States vying for the presidency in 2020.

Warren announced her campaign in her home state of MA at a mill site where largely immigrant factory workers went on strike about 100 years ago, a fitting forum for the longtime consumer advocate to advance her platform. Joe Kennedy III, D-Newtown; and Lori Trahan, D-Westford; U.S. Sen.

Warren told the crowd on Saturday, "It won't be enough to just undo the awful acts of this administration".

Warren was the first high-profile Democrat to signal interest in running for the White House, forming an exploratory committee on New Year's Eve. He is just the latest and most extreme symptom of what's gone wrong in America, a product of a rigged system that props up the rich and powerful and kicks dirt on everyone else.

Arguing that the struggles mill workers faced 100 years ago are similar to those million of American families face today, Warren said she - like the women of Lawrence - is here to say "enough is enough" and take her fight for US middle class workers to the White House.

"This is the fight of our lives", she said.

Memphis Grizzlies to trade Marc Gasol to Toronto Raptors
While everyone wondered what Ujiri would do after another embarrassing playoff exit, we now have our answer: He blew it up. Raptors guard Fred VanVleet spoke highly of Gasol shortly before Toronto tipped off against the Hawks in Atlanta.

Speaking from Washington, Al Jazeera's correspondent Heidi Zhou-Castro said that as popular as Warren's wealth reform proposals may be with the liberal base, "she does have quite a liability with her claims of Native American ancestry".

The Massachusetts Democrat, a leader of the party's progressive wing, made her announcement from a historic site in Lawrence, northwest of Boston, that launched the US organized labor movement.

The Democrats are in the beginning stages of selecting a contender to take on Donald Trump, who launched his 2020 campaign shortly after his inauguration.

What issues will Warren's campaign focus on?

However, New York Sen. The paper reported Tuesday that Warren listed her race as "American Indian" on her registration card for the State Bar of Texas dated April 1986.

Warren's 2020 announcement on Saturday follows a week in which she's taken major heat after a form years ago for the Texas bar came to light. "I'm not taking applications from billionaires who want to run a super PAC on my behalf". After proposing an "ultra-millionaire tax" that would hit the wealthiest 75,000 households in America, Warren told Bloomberg News last week that she continues to "believe in capitalism" but wants to see stricter rules to prevent gaming the system - a marked contrast with the self-described democratic socialism of Sanders. She meant to spend Sunday in Iowa, where the leadoff caucuses will be the first test of candidates' viability. In 2012, her run for the U.S. Senate in MA was overshadowed by reporting that she was listed for years as a minority in the Association of American Law Schools directory and as Native American while teaching law at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania.

Immediately following her Lawrence announcement, the senator embarked on a seven-state organizing tour to drum up support for her campaign in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and California - must-win early primary states.
