Virginia Governor: Not Quitting in Blackface Scandal

Video Fairfax...It is obvious that a vicious and co-ordinated smear campaign is being orchestrated against

The photo in question, which appears on his page in an Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook from 1984, shows two people: one appearing to be dressed in blackface and another appearing to be a member of the Ku Klux Klan. "There's no better person to do that than a doctor", said Northam.

The state capitol has been plunged into turmoil by the twin scandals.

Virginia Delegate Patrick Hope (D) will hold off on filing the paperwork to begin impeachment proceedings against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D), saying in a statement on Monday he's "open to discussions on other avenues that would accomplish the same goals". A housecleaning could be costly: If all three Democrats resign, Republican state House Speaker Kirk Cox would become Virginia's governor. A lawyer for another woman accusing Fairfax of sexual assault, Meredith Watson, said in a statement that Fairfax raped Watson in 2000 when they were students at Duke University, calling the alleged attack "premeditated and aggressive". "Virginia also needs someone who is strong, who has empathy, who has courage and who has a moral compass", Northam said.

The embattled Democrat, who has faced calls to resign from politicians of both parties, conducted an interview with Gayle King, which aired on Monday.

Ralph Northam, during a campaign stop at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in 2017, is facing calls to resign after a picture showing him in blackface or a KKK outfit emerged on February 1, 2019.

Ralph Northam said Sunday he has no intention of resigning, despite widespread calls for him to quit because of a racist picture on his personal page in a 1984 medical school yearbook and his use of black face to depict a pop music star.

Fairfax also addressed Watson's claim in his statement, saying: "Regarding Ms. Watson, I knew Ms. Watson in college both before and after the encounter, and she never said to me that our interaction was not consensual or caused her any discomfort".

The changing explanations were often cited by elected Democrats in their calls for Northam to resign and, according to the Post poll, struck most voters as unbelievable.

Northam - now a year into his four-year term - has told his top staff he's staying in office and said he wants to focus the rest of his term as governor on taking concrete steps toward increasing racial equality.

Sixers trade former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz to Magic
Fultz who's just 20 years old has been in and out of the lineup with a nagging shoulder and wrist injury. Orlando can point out to its fans that it traded for a onetime No. 1 draft pick.

Already facing calls to resign over his "blackface" scandal, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam triggered more outrage, mockery and some serious fact-checking, after referring to the first Africans in the United States as "indentured servants".

Asked Sunday for his opinion on his subordinates, Northam said in the CBS interview that it's up to Fairfax and Herring to decide whether they want to remain in office. Next in line after Fairfax (should he resign or be removed) would be State Attorney General Mark Herring, who is also at the center of a scandal after admitting that he himself wore blackface in the past.

But wait, Northam isn't done prattling on: "Virginia needs someone that can heal".

Once again, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam caused a nationwide facepalm with race-related comments.

Democratic lawmakers from Virginia have called on Fairfax to resign, as have Democratic senators Kirsten Gillibrand of NY and Cory Booker of New Jersey - both 2020 presidential contenders - among others.

If Fairfax were to leave, there's no consensus on who could replace him.

"He has been a very articulate champion of some of the issues", the 25-year-old black woman said, citing work fighting for Muslim migrants hit by Trump's travel ban.

I really don't get why Ralph Northam or his comms team thinks it helps him to communicate in public.
