Huawei vows USA 'can't crush us'

The founder of Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei has said the United States can not defeat his company's global ambitions.

Australia, New Zealand, and the USA have already banned or blocked Huawei from supplying equipment for their future 5G mobile broadband networks, while Canada is reviewing whether the company's products present a serious security threat.

Mr. Ren's comments regard recent USA governmental actions against Huawei, which include criminal charges both corporate and personal: Ren's daughter, Meng Wanzhou, is Huawei's CFO, and she was arrested in December in Canada at the request of the United States.

Then, on January 23, the Department of Justice confirmed it will proceed with its extradition request.

"Because across our entire organization, we've stressed once and again that we will never do that", he said in an interview with CBS on Tuesday.

But Ren, 74, also denounced as "politically motivated" the December arrest of his daughter, Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, who is accused of violating USA sanctions against Iran and faces an extradition hearing in Canada next month. We object to this. "But now that we've gone down this path, we'll let the courts settle it", Ren said.

The US can not crush Huawei, the company's founder has insisted, as he hit back against criminal indictments levelled at the firm and allegations that it poses a security threat. "Even if they persuade more countries not to use us temporarily, we can always scale things down a bit", he stated.

The Chile worldwide remains down in the dumps over at Old Trafford having scored just two goals all seasons. It's not an excuse because if I go on for 10 or 20 minutes I have to perform as that's why I'm here.

Just as the United Kingdom has indicated a level of trust in Huawei, so Huawei indicates that the feeling is mutual. "If the United States doesn't trust us, then we will shift our investment from the U.S. to the UK on an even bigger scale". "Because if the U.S. doesn't trust us, then we will shift our investment from the USA to the United Kingdom on an even bigger scale". We will invest even more in the UK.

The United States is calling on its allies not to use technology from Huawei, the world's biggest producer of telecommunication equipment, amid concerns over its relationship with the Chinese government and allegations it has enabled state espionage. More substantially, the firm says that it will never collaborate with the Chinese government.

"The Chinese government has already clearly said that it won't install any backdoors", he explained.

He also once more denied any connection between the company and the Chinese government, noting that spying is a risk he wouldn't take. "And we won't install backdoors either".

Canada arrested Meng on Dec 1 at the request of the United States. "We're not going to risk the disgust of our country and of our customers all over the world, because of something like this", he said.

So far, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Japan are among the nations that have put roadblocks in Huawei's way, citing concerns that the company's equipment could be appropriated by Beijing and used for espionage. "If we have any such actions, then I'll shut the company down", he told the BBC in a separate interview.

The problem for the United States, of course, is that Huawei doesn't need it to be successful. "And (for) the next 30 years to come, we will never do that".
