U.S. wins WTO case against China over grain exports

Citing an unnamed source the WSJ said US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer was expected to travel to Beijing for a new round of face-to-face talks the week of April 29. — Reuters pic

The president's remarks followed a report by The Wall Street Journal saying USA and Chinese officials are tentatively working toward signing ceremony for a new trade agreement as soon as late May.

A spokesman for Mr Lighthizer declined to comment on the trip.

On April 4, Trump said it might take four weeks to put together a framework for the deal and two weeks more to get the details on paper.

The United States won a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on Thursday against China's use of tariff-rate quotas for rice, wheat and corn, which it successfully argued limited market access for US grain exports.
