China protests USA sanctions threat for buying Iran oil

Iran Leader Says US Oil Sanctions Won't Go

China has told Washington to avoid "wrong moves" that hurt Chinese interests following a USA threat to impose sanctions on buyers of Iranian oil. They expire May 2.

Last year, President Donald Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, reached between his country and other major world powers in 2015, and chose to re-impose sanctions on the Persian country.

Five of the countries - Greece, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan - have already heavily reduced their purchases from Iran. Pompeo via a statement released said, "We will continue to apply maximum pressure on the Iranian regime until its leaders change their destructive behaviour, respect the rights of the Iranian people, and return to the negotiating table".

In May past year, US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal with world powers, which had given the Islamic republic sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme. The US had then told India and other countries to cut oil imports from the Gulf nation to zero by November 4 or be prepared to face harsh sanctions.

"We are in forefront of fighting terrorism", he claimed, saying that Iran had been "the only country fighting Da'esh (ISIS)" alongside Iraqi and Syrian ground forces.

Despite this, analysts said global oil markets remained adequately supplied thanks to ample spare capacity from the Middle East dominated Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Russian and also the United States.

Flight crews on board Air Asia Flight D7236 were met on the ground by West Australian police and medical response teams. The flight was cleared to depart Tokyo on the night of April 22 and landed safely in Kuala Lumpur early this morning.

China, Iran's biggest oil customer, has formally complained about the move.

During the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, the two sides sought to disrupt each other's oil exports in what was known as the Tanker War.

Saudi Arabia has no immediate plans to raise oil output, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih said Wednesday.

Yet the Iranian official was surprisingly conciliatory on the subject of Trump himself, insisting that the U.S. leader's peaceful instincts were being foiled by an worldwide "plot" involving Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and anti-Iran hawks in Washington, DC. "We will export our oil as much as we need and we intend", his official English-language Twitter account said.

The Chinese spokesperson said that his country's reaction to the decision of the Donald Trump-led administration was "the common position of the vast majority of the global community".
