Samsung’s next generation Galaxy tab series, the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 series is currently being reviewed by the Federal Communications Commission as we type. Can you believe they are releasing 3 different tablets for this series, a 7.0 inch, 8.0 inch, and a 10.1 inch tablet?
Samsung Galaxy tab 3 Series
So you may have already noticed if you follow the Samsung Galaxy Tab series up till now that these tablets typically come in two screen sizes — 7 , and 10.1 inches. Well that will changes with the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 series. The Galaxy tab 3 series will allow users to choose from three different devices with different screen sizes. This will give the consumer a flexibility of screen choices that fits their needs. The question is, why did Samsung extend it’s Samsung Galaxy tab product width with a 8.0 inch edition? Well you could probably guess that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 series has been quite a success lately, and Samsung thought that they would give the Galaxy tab series a little piece of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 hardware. To boot, they equipped it with a larger screen — boosting the screen size about an inch. This maneuver would allow Samsung to cut production cost as they would not need to develop a 7 inch display with a 800 x 1280 px resolution just for the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 7.0 which will still feature a 600 x 1024 resolution display. The same display their previous Galaxy Tab 2 series had. The 10.1 inch Galaxy Tab 3 will have the same 800 x 1280 px resolution display that it’s older brother has as well. Other than that, the Galaxy tab 3 8.0 stole the show as it’s in-between the other two and cost less than the 10.1 inch and has the same amount of pixels. It has the highest pixel per inch than the others (189 ppi). This means that the pixels will be more closer together, thus, showing more details.

In hindsight, it appears like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Series is competing with the Apple iPad Mini, Since the iPad mini has a 7.9 inch display, and the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 has an 8 inch screen, thus, the galaxy tab 3 8.0 is just 0.1 inch larger. However, since the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 sports a nice 800 x 1280 px resolution display over the iPad mini, consumers may think otherwise when faced to purchasing the iPad mini. Thus, Samsung is aiming to win peoples hearts over with this new Samsung Galaxy tab 3 8.0 version until the the new iPad mini shows up. The iPad mini still has it’s advantage in that it runs iOS. Loyal iOS users will definitely purchase the iPad mini over the Samsung Galaxy tab 3; however, those who are indifferent about the operating system may be up to purchase that juicy Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 if they are up for the higher resolution display. On the other hand, the dimensions of the iPad mini may still be more attractive choice with a thickness of 0.28 inch vs the 0.41 inch of an Galaxy tab 3 8.0. Of course, you have to add in the 29 dollar premium of the iPad mini. This could change soon however. On the 7 inch front, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is an attractive choice in terms of price, however, might be criticized over the other tablets in terms of screen resolution — namely the Asus Nexus 7. Since the Nexus 7 has a higher resolution screen, this trait would definitely be a night and day experience, and pricing difference is only 39 dollars. Thus, depending on the price of the MeMoPad HD7, the MeMoPad HD7 may be a very popular choice. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 blows most of the tablets in the same category out of the water in terms of weight and dimension, but fails to deliver in screen resolution and is just a tad bit less expensive.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Series is currently available for pre-order, and will ship on July 7. Would you purchase a Samsung Galaxy tab 3? And if yes, which screen size?
