About Us
Curious, a little cheeky, very into tech
Fine, we’re a little obsessed with tech.
A gorgeous screen? A tiny gadget doing something clever? Okay, you have our attention. DeviceCritique follows the tech news, pokes around the details and asks what a new device or update actually does for your day. Looking lovely on a desk is a promising start. It still has to earn the plug socket.
That’s the critique part. What changed? Who is it useful for? Is the shiny new feature worth the extra money? We can be fond of a gadget and still give its spec sheet a mildly suspicious look. Yes, even the cute one. Especially the cute one; it knows what it’s doing.
Find your kind of tech
Explore smartphones, tablets, audio, televisions, monitors and computing. We also cover wearables, connected devices and the software and services around them.
Choosing a work laptop, building a cosy gaming corner, making something, or wondering why the television needs a software update before you can eat your noodles? Come on in. You don’t need to know every acronym. We’ll explain the bits that matter, admire the clever ideas and gently bully the unnecessary faff.
Cute gadgets. Proper standards.
News: We link to announcements, product information and support documents, and say whose claims we’re reporting. A manufacturer’s battery-life promise stays a manufacturer’s promise until it has been tested. The little asterisk is getting read, too.
Reviews and analysis: We make the basis of an assessment clear, distinguish hands-on experience from analysis of published information, and identify opinion. If we haven’t tested a product, the story should say so. Enthusiasm doesn’t count as a lab result, however adorable the enthusiasm.
Commercial transparency: Sponsored content must be clearly labelled. Affiliate links and relevant arrangements, including a product supplied for coverage, should be disclosed in the article so readers can assess the context.
Dates and corrections: Prices and availability need a market and a date. Older stories keep their original publication date, with update or correction notes when important details change. Nobody needs a three-year-old launch price sneaking into today’s shopping plans.
