Apple TV 4K adds hands-free Siri and four-speaker surround
Apple TV 4K has found a new way to ask for your attention: three far-field microphones. The A19-powered 2026 Apple TV 4K, announced October 13, is scheduled for November 13 from US$299. Its Siri Remote adds Precision Finding and a sound alert. I’ll admit, a remote that can announce its own whereabouts has my attention. All right, little rectangle. That is a good use of your time.
But hold off on replacing the box just yet.
New hardware does not make every feature exclusive
Apple says Siri AI also supports Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward. The beta needs compatible software and an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad configured for the home. Language and regional limits apply, too. Check what your current setup can do before deciding it’s been made obsolete overnight.

Start with the annoyance you actually want to fix. Can’t find anything to watch? Look at the software requirements. Remote behaving badly? Focus there. Awkward speaker arrangement? That’s another question again. A new box should solve something; it can’t be expected to choose a film for two people who keep saying “anything’s fine.”
About those four speakers…
The surround option has its own shopping list
The fourth-generation box supports four-speaker surround using HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers, arranged as matching front and rear pairs. You buy the speakers separately. US$299 gets you the box; the rest of that very composed promotional living room has its own shopping list.

Before moving a single cushion, work out what you already own and where those speakers would go. Would you enjoy building around this audio system? Would the layout work on an ordinary evening? We haven’t independently tested the new configuration, so the announcement can’t settle sound quality or everyday convenience for us.
DeviceCritique’s take
There are useful new control and audio choices here, provided their requirements fit your home. For more living-room changes, try LG’s living-room gaming update and Sony’s BRAVIA stability release. The little upgrades that remove a daily irritation can be surprisingly lovable. Yes, even helping a remote escape from between the cushions counts.
