Instagram reaches Apple TV, and Reels get the sofa screen
The video you were about to hold six inches from somebody’s face has found a less awkward venue. Instagram now lists Apple TV support, bringing its video experience to the screen everyone on the sofa can actually see. The official US App Store listing requires tvOS 26.0 or later. Yes, the little streaming box has acquired another way to make “just one more video” sound like a perfectly sensible evening plan.
What the Apple TV app offers
Instagram’s TV-specific description lists Reels, longer videos and live shows, along with discovering creators and continuing across screens. Apple’s public TV app metadata identifies version 66.0 with an October 23 release timestamp. That tells us when this version was released; it does not establish the exact moment every customer first gained access. MacRumors reported the availability on October 24.

The appeal is easy to picture: someone finds a ridiculous clip, and the whole room gets the punchline without arranging a tiny human semicircle around a phone. The developer’s screenshots show a television-sized browsing grid and video player. Those are promotional examples, rather than evidence from our own testing. We have not measured playback quality or checked which features appear for individual accounts.
Before the remote gets ambitious, check the small print.
Compatibility is not a worldwide feature promise
Start with the software requirement and your local App Store. The US listing confirms Apple TV compatibility, while Instagram warns that some features vary by country or region. A supported device is therefore only one part of the check. Do not assume the same catalogue, account options or rollout in Canada merely because the US page has a Get button.
It is also worth deciding whose feed belongs on the family television. A phone recommendation can be a private little oddity; on the big screen, it becomes a room-wide discussion about why there are suddenly twelve videos of unusually round cats. Consider the audience before signing in, particularly on a shared set.

Instagram’s TV rollout has a history
Meta first tested Instagram for TV on US Fire TV devices in December 2025, then added Google TV in February. Its June announcement brought US Samsung TVs into the picture and discussed experiments with longer, horizontal and episodic content. Those earlier platform-specific features should not automatically be treated as an Apple TV checklist.
For readers following the box itself, our Apple TV 4K coverage looks at Apple’s hardware plans. Our audio buyer’s guide can help with the sound side of a living-room setup. The useful takeaway here is simpler: check tvOS and local availability, then decide whether your favourite creators deserve the sofa screen. The round cats will almost certainly vote yes.
