Apple’s M6 MacBook Pro starts at CAD $2,799
Apple announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on October 27. Canadian pricing starts at CAD $2,799, or CAD $2,659 with education savings. Preorders open October 28, with availability from November 6.
The shiny-new-chip reflex is understandable. A laptop that spends its afternoon thinking about your export is practically inviting you to browse the store. Before the shopping cart gets ideas, though, separate the machine you need from the wonderfully persuasive machine in the launch photographs.
Start with the configuration, then the chip
The technical specifications list a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, 16GB of memory configurable to 32GB, and 1TB to 4TB storage. The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display supports adaptive refresh up to 120Hz; nano-texture is an option.
Write down the apps, files and external devices that make up a normal week. A large photo library, a development project and a dozen modest office documents ask different things of a computer. The useful comparison is your actual bottleneck: waiting, running out of space, or simply carrying a machine you dislike carrying.

The battery headline has two different workloads
Apple lists up to 24 hours of video streaming and up to 16 hours of wireless web use. These are manufacturer test results; battery life varies by configuration and use. Fast charging calls for a 96W or higher USB Power Delivery source. Apple lists a 70W adapter in the box, below that fast-charge threshold.
That distinction matters when an afternoon contains calls, uploads and a browser that appears to be collecting tabs professionally. Treat the number as a comparison point, then try your real work during the seller’s return period. Our LAVIE X14 coverage examines another battery-focused laptop and the conditions behind its claims.
Connections include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are included.
Before replacing a dock, make a small connection map: charger, display, storage, camera card and whichever accessory always goes missing. Having the right sockets is more satisfying than owning an impressive adapter collection. The collection has had quite enough attention already.

Choose for the day you actually have
If portability means drawing, reading and occasional keyboard work, our 12-inch Surface Pro coverage offers a different form factor to consider. If it means sustained work on your lap, start by checking the software and peripherals you depend on.
The M6 MacBook Pro is worth a closer look when a specific limitation is slowing you down. Compare the configuration that fixes it with the cost of keeping your current setup a little longer. New hardware can be lovely. A clearly identified reason to buy it is lovelier, and considerably harder for a launch video to supply.
