Galaxy XR’s October update brings a September security patch

Galaxy XR has received a new entry in Samsung’s update log, and the useful detail is rather less flashy than a floating cinema. The official Korean-language changelog for model SM-I610 lists I610UES3AZJ2, released October 21, 2026. Samsung describes security-related stabilization code. A little maintenance appointment for the computer on your face: sensible, welcome, and thankfully not asking you to learn another gesture.

First, keep the two dates separate.

October release, September security level

The firmware’s listed security patch level is September 5, 2026, while its release date is October 21. It remains on Android U, or Android 14. Those are separate fields in Samsung’s record. The changelog does not announce a new Android version, a fresh interface or a measured performance improvement, so we cannot attach those promises to this release.

Security maintenance rarely has a glamorous product photograph. That does not make it unimportant. It is simply worth knowing what actually arrived before attributing every smoother animation—or every grumpy loading screen—to the latest download. Our headset-sized detective hat can stay on its hook until there is evidence.

Here’s where to check your own unit.

Use the headset’s update menu

Samsung’s support instructions say to press the headset’s top button to open the Launcher, choose Settings, then Software updates. The headset checks automatically; follow its prompts if a download is offered. Availability can differ by model and country, so the published log does not mean every owner will see the same screen at the same moment.

In April’s separate announcement, Samsung said regular software and security updates would run for up to five years, counted from the first Galaxy XR launch in October 2025. That is useful context, not five fresh years added by this patch.

We have not tested this firmware. Our original Vision Pro explainer looks at another headset’s ambitions, and our Wearables & XR section follows what happens after the launch-day sparkle. For owners, this week’s concrete news is a security build to check for. The floating cinema can wait politely while the ordinary upkeep gets done.
