NEC’s LAVIE Tab T12N includes a pen and keyboard

A tablet shopping list has a sneaky way of sprouting a second shopping list. First comes the tablet, then the keyboard, then the pen, then a small negotiation with the bank account. A box that already contains the important accessories has an obvious charm. Look at it, behaving itself.

NEC’s October 27 announcement schedules Japan’s refreshed LAVIE Tab T12N and T8 for October 29. Both have open pricing, with retailers setting the price.

A larger working setup

The T12N’s exact new model is T1275/MAS: a 12.1-inch, 2560 × 1600 tablet with Dimensity 6400, 8GB memory, 256GB storage and Android 16. A Digital Pen B and dedicated keyboard are included. Its roughly 530g weight is for the tablet alone.

That last distinction is useful when deciding what will live in your bag. For a fair comparison, weigh the whole setup you intend to carry, including its cover, charger and any other pieces. An appealing headline weight is only the beginning of the story if your daily routine involves typing.

More fundamentally, try the work before imagining the workstation. Open the browser tools you use, check whether the document app has the functions you need and see how comfortably the keyboard fits your hands. An accessory bundle makes the bill easier to understand; it cannot decide whether your everyday software feels right.

The smaller companion

The smaller T8, model T0855/MAS, uses an 8.7-inch 1340 × 800 display, Helio G85, 4GB memory, 128GB storage and Android 15. It weighs about 320g. These specifications belong to the new retail models, not earlier versions with similar names.

For reading, a little web browsing or something to watch on a journey, the question becomes how much screen you want to hold. More display area gives a page more room; a smaller device asks less of the bag. Try holding the size you are considering in the position you normally read. Your wrists get a vote too.

The model numbers deserve a place in the shopping notes. Search results can mix familiar family names with older listings, so compare the operating system, memory and included accessories line by line. A tempting price needs the right product beside it before it becomes a bargain.

Our iPad mini coverage provides another example of the questions surrounding a smaller tablet, while the 12-inch Surface Pro illustrates a different route to a portable working setup. Start with the apps and carrying habits you have, then choose the shape that serves them.

NEC’s T12N technical table and T8 technical table are the useful checkout companions. Keep them close; the accessory list has been known to get ambitious.
