LINE’s scrolling previews move to Premium in Japan

Imagine a group chat with thirty-seven unread messages when you only need to know whether dinner moved to seven. Opening the conversation feels suspiciously like volunteering for the next planning committee. A preview is useful precisely because it can answer a smaller question.

In its October 28 Japanese announcement, LY Corporation says LINE’s scrolling preview moves from its free Labs trial to LYP Premium Standard and LYP Premium with Netflix on November 4. It needs LINE 26.15.0 or later; PC LINE is excluded.

There are two different previews here

The scrolling version lets a long-press preview move through chat history while leaving messages unread. The company also plans to bring the older, partial, non-scrolling preview to Android users generally on November 4, including those without Premium.

That is the important split when deciding whether to pay. Someone who only needs a small peek has a different requirement from someone trying to catch up on a long conversation. Write down the job you want the feature to do before comparing membership names. A subscription does not become necessary just because the upgrade button has excellent posture.

A small gesture has a fairly important consequence

The current LINE Help instructions warn that tapping inside the preview without scrolling opens the chat and marks it read. They tell users to tap outside the preview to close it. The current trial documentation also excludes Android secondary devices.

That makes this a feature worth learning with an ordinary, low-stakes conversation first. Check the gesture, check the result, and let the mechanics become familiar before relying on it for an awkward message. “I was only checking the dinner time” should not require an explanatory flowchart afterwards.

Read the date before the membership button

This is a Japanese subscription announcement, not a worldwide feature guarantee.

Before changing a plan, check the benefit list attached to your account rather than assuming every paid tier contains the same tools. Decide whether the scrolling part will save you enough small interruptions to matter. Keep the conversation’s urgency separate from the membership decision. The lovely outcome is less friction, not another recurring payment that sits quietly in the corner wearing a tiny hat.

Our LINE call-recording report follows a different Labs feature with its own conditions. The Software & Services desk covers those rollout details because the fine print often decides what an update actually does for your day.
