LINE starts a free call-recording trial, with regional limits
A useful phone conversation has a mischievous habit of becoming a very vague memory five minutes later. Was that Tuesday, or Thursday? Which entrance? LINE’s latest addition gives that familiar little mystery a more practical answer, provided your account and phone qualify. The details deserve a moment before the record button gets its debut.
A trial with boundaries
LY Corporation began a staged LINE Labs rollout on October 27, adding recording for one-to-one voice and video calls. LINE version 26.16.0 is required. In the Japanese announcement, access after the free Labs trial is planned for LYP Premium Standard and LYP Premium with Netflix members from this winter.
The Help Center lists Japan, Taiwan and Thailand for recording, with both accounts registered in the same region. Transcription is restricted to Japan and Japanese voice calls; video calls do not receive transcripts. Windows and Mac sub-devices are excluded.
That makes the first question wonderfully unglamorous: would the person you normally call qualify too? Check the actual pairing before planning around the feature. A clever button is less useful when half of the conversation cannot join it.

Give the recording a safe home
Enable recording in LINE Labs, and switch on transcription before a voice call; the first use downloads a speech model. Starting recording announces it to both participants and shows an on-screen indicator. Voice recordings stop at one hour; video limits are 20 or 50 minutes, depending on quality.
The shared announcement is a sensible cue to agree what you want to keep. A recording can help with directions or a complicated arrangement, but a short written confirmation may still be the easiest thing to find tomorrow. Choose the format that helps the other person as well as your future self.
Locally stored data not sent to Keep Memo is deleted when changing devices or reinstalling LINE. The Help Center advises saving files beforehand. Transcripts can contain recognition errors.

So give an important name, number or appointment time a second look. A transcript makes a conversation searchable; it does not make every syllable correct. Keep the original when accuracy matters, and organise anything you need to retain instead of trusting a future scroll through a busy chat.
The staged approach also means the release date is a starting point for checking your app, rather than a promise that every eligible account already has the control. The official announcement explains the trial and later membership plans.
Our Firefox rollout coverage shows another feature whose access conditions matter, while Siri AI’s language expansion is a useful reminder that language support has its own timetable. Try the small, useful job first. Your calendar would appreciate fewer interpretive adventures.
