Docomo sets November 27 online launch for XREAL AURA in Japan

Buying wearable tech can turn into a heroic comparison of processors, storage and numbers with suspiciously impressive punctuation. Then the glasses arrive, and the most important specification is simply: do these fit your face?

Docomo’s November 2 announcement gives Japanese XREAL AURA shoppers a concrete next step. Online sales start November 27; nationwide Docomo shops follow from December onward. Those are different schedules, so a November shop visit should not be planned around the online date.

Choose the fit before celebrating the storage

Docomo lists 12GB RAM/256GB storage and 16GB/512GB versions, each in M or L. The stated pupil-distance ranges are 60–66mm for M and 66–72mm for L.

Start there. Storage can be compared in a neat little table; how an optical device lines up with your eyes deserves rather more care. If you do not know your measurement, establish it before treating a size label as a clothing-style guess.

And if you sit at the boundary, ask the seller how to choose and what its return or exchange policy allows. A product page can list two sizes without deciding which will suit an individual person. Your face is allowed to decline the spreadsheet’s recommendation.

The pack is part of the experience

AURA separates the glasses from a compute pack, which also works as a trackpad. Docomo says the carrying lanyard is included only with the 16GB/512GB model. Its announcement does not state a selling price.

Here’s why that is worth noticing: compare what comes in the box as well as the headline capacity. If you expect to move between rooms or carry the device outside your desk setup, think through where the pack and cable will go. A wearable purchase involves your pockets, too. They would like a small consultation.

A regional rollout, with questions still worth asking

This is a Japanese carrier availability update for an existing device. Our earlier Canadian AURA coverage concerns a separate market; its offer should not be used as a substitute for Docomo’s local checkout details.

Before buying, make a short list of the tasks that would justify the purchase. Watching video, working with several windows and trying spatial apps can call for different things from a headset. Check your actual apps and the complete local cost, rather than buying a vague promise that everything will become more futuristic on Tuesday.

The takeaway: Japanese shoppers now have an online date and a later store rollout to watch. Confirm the price when it is listed, choose the appropriate optical fit, and compare the included accessories. Our Wearables & XR desk follows the wider choices. The fun part is imagining the possibilities; the useful part is making sure your favourite possibility is actually the one you can use.
